Before Bathroom

This post is actually a bit of a lie as I had started clearing the bathroom before I had the idea to start this blog. And look I tidied the windowsill (but not the playmobil for some reason) for the photo so you didn't think I was completely disgusting! (Why is there playmobil in my bathroom??)
You also can't see the bag of loo roll which is just on the floor behind the door as I have no storage. *Sobs*

So here are my bathroom tips so far! -
Don't have time to actually sort? Find a nice box and put loose objects in there. Look how tidy the shelf over the toilet looks! (Or it might not because you didn't see it before but trust me it looks so much better)

All those old bottles which are either empty or have a little bit left in them which you haven't used in a year but there's still a bit left so have kept them? Clean them out and put them in the recycling!

All those old bottles which have lots left in them and you haven't used in a year but you paid money for it and are not going to just throw it away? Dont really like the smell but what if there's a zombie apocalypse and you can no longer buy hair product?
Are you really going to use them in the future? Really? No probably not. Clean them out and put them in the recycling.
Especially those which demonstrate our lost hopes. I have kept bubble bath in the hope I might get to a point where I can have regular baths again. I don't have time, when I do it's not how I choose to use precious free time, the bubble bath is about 5 years old and things do have an expiry date. Time to bin!

Put into storage any duplicates. Bought in bulk? No storage space in your bathroom but there is somewhere else? Not an item that you might get caught short on if you unexpectedly run out (eg. Loo roll). Store it somewhere else then.

So it begins.....

So the declutter process begins. The first evening I was super revved up about decluttering and even managed to rope in my husband. (By rope in I mean he was sat in the same room working on his laptop and I interrupted him from time to time by holding up a book and shouting "Keep or give away?") And I ended up with a good ole pile of books released from their prison of the bookshelf. Then I got tired and the books stayed on the floor for a few days. Which brought me to my first learning lesson; it's all well and good decluttering but that isn't the end of the process, you have to then do something with what you have decluttered! Can we create eco children?

My 5yo loves to watch YouTube. (Very heavily monitored, only as a treat but still...) What she most loves to watch is people unwrapping things and people playing with toys and demonstrating them. Judging by the amount of views and by talking to other parents this seems to be all the rage for 5 year olds. At the moment she likes to watch LOL dolls. This has of course led to 'mummy can I have an LOL doll?'. If you have not had the misfortune to know what this is, let me describe some of the video to you. First it is covered in packaging layered round it and so you must remove some disposable plastic wrapping, then a bit more disposable plastic wrapping, then a bit more. This then leaves you with a round plastic ball. It has different sections which you can open. Disempowerment

Lately I've become quite disempowered. I used to have a zest for fighting against injustice and trying to make the world a better place. But with everything that 2020 has brought, the chaos, the injustices, the suffering, I have just felt disempowered. It just seems that greedy, inept people fall upwards whilst everyone else suffers.  Add into that the fact that under lockdown my responsibilities have gone up exponentially. I am trying to work, homeschool my kids, maintain my health, look out for my community, keep up with other people's expectations of me that I have no time for thinking, no time for me.  (After this experience I will never complain about being short on time ever again!)
